e-Government Conference

Published by Martin De Saulles | Filed under Research

the hague jun07 I’ve just returned from the 7th European Conference on e-Government at the Haagse Hogeschool in The Hague. There were some interesting presentations and the conference got off to a good start with an opening keynote speech from Brian Loader of York University. He presented a critique of some of the more technologically deterministic approaches to e-Government and argued that policy makers needed to be more aware of some of complexities of such initiatives. I chaired a session on information and knowledge management in the public sector where the issues of document management and archiving were discussed. I’m not sure we came up with any firm conclusions to the issue of archiving of electronic documents but we all agreed it was a growing problem both for organisations and individuals. My presentation on innovation in the public sector went ok (I think) but the 25 minute time limit does not allow for much of an in-depth consideration of the issues. However, Don Norris from the University of Maryland made some useful comments which will feed back into a revised version of the paper.
