Beyond the Book?

logo_btb1.gifIn August, I presented a paper (read the abstract here) at the Beyond the Book conference, held at the University of Birmingham by the team behind the Beyond the Book project. The conference brought together a great international mix of academics (from library academics, to cultural theorists and English scholars), librarians and practitioners, which made for a very rewarding blend of intellectual and practical perspectives. I presented a paper based on an innovative project currently running in Strood Libraries by Gail Wright, Community Librarian - she runs a fortnightly playstation group for boys, where they are also encouraged to expand and share their reading habits. Gail carried out action research on the project for the Masters dissertation she completed with us last year. The Beyond the Book team have also set up a blog.

Papers from the conference will be published in a range of journals next year - including relevant library ones.
