Geographically, over a quarter (27%) of US AI jobs were located in California in 2023. This highlights California as the top state for AI career opportunities.
From 2017-2022, the US had a 1.2% average annual growth rate in AI hiring. While steady, this was slightly below the 1.22% global average. The US pace was surpassed by Brazil (1.21%), Canada (1.26%), and Great Britain (1.22%). So while the US remains an AI leader, other countries are challenging its dominance in AI job creation.
In summary, demand and pay for AI talent continue rising rapidly. Software development, cloud, data science, and leadership skills are most coveted. California leads for US AI jobs, but the US has ceded some ground globally. These insights help indicate which AI careers and locations currently provide the greatest opportunities. Tracking the AI job landscape will remain important as the field and job market continue evolving quickly.
