Accounting firm PwC UK has launched an AI-powered tax assistant tool developed in collaboration with startups Harvey and OpenAI. The model is now available to all 2,300 PwC UK tax professionals to help generate tax insights and content for client engagements.
The tax assistant taps into PwC UK’s extensive tax expertise and leverages language AI technology built by Harvey and OpenAI. By combining industry knowledge with AI capabilities, the tool aims to provide enhanced transparency, quality and insights compared to publicly available AI systems.
“Generative AI presents tremendous possibilities for our clients and people,” said Laura Hinton, Tax and Legal Leader at PwC UK. “Working with tech leaders Harvey and OpenAI, we’ve created the most advanced tax AI in the industry to further differentiate our offerings.”
The model cross-references legislation, case law and other tax sources which are regularly updated. As a result, the system can provide referenced tax guidance and content for validation by experts. PwC is also exploring direct client uses to transform tax functions.
“We’ve built a unique AI asset blending deep tax expertise with natural language processing power,” said Winston Weinberg, Co-Founder and President at Harvey. “This showcases how AI can supercharge human knowledge and transform professional services.”
The launch aligns with PwC’s broader strategy to adopt emerging technologies like AI across its services. “We already see exciting results from using this model, and look forward to bringing the power of AI to more clients,” said Bivek Sharma, PwC UK’s Chief Technology Officer.
