LexisNexis Legal & Professional has announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence-powered legal research solution, Lexis+ AI, in Canada and the UK. The tool aims to streamline legal work through features like conversational search, summarization, and document drafting.
Lexis+ AI incorporates generative AI technology such as large language models into LexisNexis’ existing legal database and search capabilities. Users can have natural language conversations to conduct research, receive summaries of legal documents, and generate drafts based on prompts.
“We’re bringing transformative new technologies to help lawyers work smarter and faster,” said Eric Wright, CEO of LexisNexis Legal & Professional Canada.
The company highlighted Lexis+ AI’s ability to handle English and French content as a key advantage in the Canadian legal market. It also noted the solution’s security features including encryption to protect sensitive client data.
LexisNexis is positioning itself at the forefront of applying AI in legal settings. It has direct partnerships with major AI labs and cloud providers. The company also pointed to its 50+ years of experience with legal data security and privacy.
However, LexisNexis said it is developing Lexis+ AI responsibly under its RELX Responsible AI Principles. This includes efforts to prevent unfair bias and consider real-world impacts. An “AI Insider” program will also educate legal professionals on AI.
The launch builds on LexisNexis’ release of Lexis+ AI in the US last year. The company is competing with other legal tech providers to bring generative AI capabilities to law practices around the globe.
